I used to have PowerDvd with my WindowsMe.WindowsMe crashed and I purchased Windows XP.With XP I no longer had a dvd player. I tried several off of Downloads.com with no success. I finally found VLC VideoLan through another Downloads.com member. It Worked! Plays fine. The only problem I found with it was not being able to play individual scenes/chapters of a DVD.

This and Media Player is all you'll need.
This player has never failed to play a media file.
A really great player (as good in Linux as in Windows) and problem solver with some caveats: 1. Non-standard codecs that sometimes work well, not always. e.g. Windows Media Video quality-really low. 2. Doesn't use direct-x; a good thing in some cases, not so good in others It also has the ability to originate streams from DVD's, webcams, you-name-it, in numerous network and internet protocols and it can be remote controlled via a browser interface. These features go far beyond most commercial software and freeware. Hours of fun... just search for the many tutorials that are out there and have a blast.
